Georgina Energy advances Mt Winter site and development work
is progressing site access, environmental and development work at its Mt Winter helium, hydrogen and natural gas prospect in Australia, ahead of a planned site inspection later this month.
The company’s technical and operations team will visit Mt Winter from 18 to 23 October, travelling from Alice Springs via the Mereenie oil and gas field. The inspection will assess road access, the proposed prospect re-entry site, the existing airstrip and the planned seismic programme layout.
The work will also cover civil engineering requirements and a preliminary Environmental Impact Statement for the area, which has previously been subject to extensive seismic activity and three drilling sites.
Terms under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act have been agreed by all parties, while discussions with the Central Land Council and Traditional Owners are continuing. A final formal authorisation meeting is planned for mid-November.
Georgina is also progressing settlement arrangements for its 100% acquisition of EP155 from Mosman Oil & Gas, now Quantum Helium. Completion is expected following the formal grant of the tenement by the Northern Territory Minister for Mines and Energy.
The company plans to expedite the re-entry and development programme at Mt Winter, which has 2U/P50 prospective resources of 234 billion cubic feet of helium, 214 billion cubic feet of hydrogen and 1.7 trillion cubic feet of gas.
The seismic approval process is expected to complete shortly, while initial discussions have also been held with Ensign Energy Drilling and other drilling contractors.
The Mereenie oil and gas field, around 80 kilometres along strike from Mt Winter, has been in continuous production since 1984 and has produced more than 17 million barrels of oil and condensate and more than 280 petajoules of natural gas.
Georgina Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Anthony Hamilton said: “The planned site inspection will allow us to prepare the civil engineering works plans and environmental approvals which, similar to Hussar, will facilitate the arrival of a drill rig. The rig selection process has been initiated with Ensign Energy and other contractors. Further updates will follow as we work to expedite the Company’s planned Mt Winter prospect re-entry.”

The October site visit should help move Mt Winter closer to the execution stage by defining civil works and environmental requirements ahead of re-entry. Progress on land access, seismic approvals and rig discussions also indicates that Georgina is advancing several key workstreams in parallel.
