Poolbeg Pharma secures South Korean patent for POLB 001
has secured a South Korean patent covering POLB 001 and the use of p38 MAP kinase inhibitors to prevent cancer immunotherapy associated cytokine release syndrome (CRS).
The patent, entitled “Medicinal products and methods for the alleviation of cancer immunotherapy-associated cytokine release syndrome”, has a default expiry in 2044 and adds South Korea to Poolbeg’s growing international intellectual property portfolio for POLB 001.
POLB 001 is a potent and selective p38 MAP kinase inhibitor being developed as a potential preventative treatment for CRS, a recognised and potentially serious complication associated with a range of cancer immunotherapies.
Poolbeg has already secured patents relating to POLB 001 in Europe, Canada and Australia, alongside applications covering multiple therapeutic uses and territories. The company said expanding its global intellectual property portfolio could enhance POLB 001’s value and attractiveness to potential pharmaceutical partners.
Poolbeg Pharma’s Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Skillington said: “This latest patent grant for South Korea adds to our growing international cancer immunotherapy-associated CRS patent estate, enhancing POLB 001's attractiveness to prospective partners, and reflects the continued momentum we are generating across the programme.”
